What inspired you to pursue a career in health and wellness for older adults?

I always wanted to help people and provide care for others. Becoming a nurse allowed me to pursue that and make a difference in peoples’ lives. I ended up working in long term care and skilled nursing/rehab right out of school and loved it. I truly enjoy the relationships we get to build with our residents and their families in this environment.

Can you describe your role as Personal Care Director of Nursing? What does a typical day look like for you?

I’m always busy, I spend most of my time working to support our team, working with the residents and their families, doing orders, assessments, follow-ups and audits. I cover the floor whenever needed. My door is always open and I’m always willing to stop what I’m doing to lend a hand to whomever needs it.

How long have you been part of the community, and what drew you here?

My three-year anniversary at Barclay Friends is in November. I’d worked with some of the Barclay Friends leadership team at other communities and I felt lucky to have the opportunity to work with them again. I knew they loved their work and truly cared about the residents and providing the best care in a supportive, safe environment.

What do you find most meaningful about working with older adults?

It’s an honor to care for our elders and learn about their lives and experiences. It means everything that families share their loved ones with us and trust us as their caregivers.

That life can change in an instant. That you must keep a sense of humor and just enjoy the time you have.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work (any hobbies or interests you’d like to share)?

I’m usually busy with my two kids and their activities. My daughter and I volunteer at LaMancha Animal Rescue. I love the Phillies and Flyers and spending time with my family.

Providing quality, safe care and maintaining the team and environment we’ve created. I’m motivated to continue to be an honest and caring nurse, and a supportive resource for our team.

We’re focusing on continuing our dementia training and bringing back the dementia support group, providing more support and education to staff and families.
