Barclay Friends Expands Partnership with Meals on Wheels of Chester County

Barclay Friends recently deepened its partnership with Meals on Wheels of Chester County by taking on a second delivery route. This effort will help more neighbors receive nutritious meals and friendly visits.

Meals on Wheels of Chester County delivers food to older adults who may be living alone, recovering from surgery, or managing limited incomes. With more than 600 volunteers across the county, the organization provided 105,000 meals last year to 815 older adults last year.

Unlike many programs of its kind, Meals on Wheels of Chester County does not operate a central kitchen. Instead, it partners with trusted food providers who prepare hot, freshly made meals that do not require reheating. Barclay Friends plays an important role in this model by preparing meals that are both nourishing and thoughtfully made.

“Barclay Friends is one of our essential and trusted partners,” said Patrice Stilley, Communications Coordinator at Meals on Wheels of Chester County. “There are never complaints about the food. Every member of the kitchen team is courteous, and they take great care in meeting the needs of older adults, especially when dietary needs change unexpectedly.”

“The visit from volunteers is just as vital as the food,” said Evan Neal, Head Chef at Barclay Friends. “It helps people feel tied to the community.”

Last year, Barclay Friends served more than 2,500 meals through the program. By adding a second delivery route, the culinary team hopes to double that number, reaching even more neighbors in need and helping reduce the growing wait list for meal deliveries; a need that has become more pressing as the cost of food and medicine continues to rise.

Beyond the meals themselves, the connections made between volunteers and recipients are an equally meaningful part of the work. Each delivery offers a moment of companionship and reassurance, strengthening the sense of community that Meals on Wheels and Barclay Friends share.
