Barclay Friends Community – Testimonials
I am forever grateful for the outstanding care – physical and emotional – that my mother received while residing at Barclay Friends. They made my mother’s transition into her new home SO much better (safer and enriching) than my experience with other senior living facilities and, frankly, so much better than I could have ever imagined. My thanks to all staff; you are all special people and truly gifted at what you do.

My father has been at Barclay Friends in the Personal Care Unit (Preston) for 2 Years. Everyone was and is welcoming. The nursing care is excellent. He joins in all the activities. The best recommendation for Barclay Friends comes from my father. He tells me he is happy there.

I can’t say enough nice things about Barclay. The facility is very nicely kept and the rooms are just the right size. My Aunt was in memory care for over a year and the staff was excellent even when she had her outbursts from dementia. Same for the skilled unit that she used for rehab after a fall and at the end when she was on hospice. Please consider this facility for your family members, it was a wonderful experience for a difficult time in our lives.

We feel very comfortable with our mom being at the Barclay. We appreciate that the staff seem to know her by name and are very friendly with her and all of our family coming for visits. Mom likes to be alone and the Barclay has allowed that while also working to keep her socially involved at mealtimes and other events.

Barclay Friends has a very caring staff and the community is very residential, beautiful, and location is great in the Borough of West Chester, but in a residential neighborhood. The new Preston building is perfect for someone who is independent, but does not want to cook or clean anymore.

From the minute I walked into Barclay Friends, I knew it was the one. Growing up, my mom loved flowers and gardening and really has a green thumb and my dad was always around agriculture, so they are able to look out their windows and see trees and flowers and connect with their surroundings.

Even though my 93 year old Mom was only a resident of Barclay Friends for about 4.5 months before peacefully passing away, her stay there was exceptional. The staff in the Birmingham unit were some of the most caring and thoughtful people I’ve ever met. Mom suffered from dementia, was wheelchair bound, and later became bedridden. She called out and cried a lot and at times seemed inconsolable. Everyone I came in contact with – from the Receptionist, Admissions office, Nursing Director, Social Services, Activities, Music Therapy, PT/OT, Communications/Technology, Dietician, Food service, Financial services, etc., to the amazing Nursing staff and Aids – bent over backwards to provide comfort and kind companionship to my ailing Mom. At all times during her stay, the team kept me fully apprised of her condition and answered my many questions. They also made a point of frequently asking me how I was doing, handling the grief associated with letting go of my Mom. My brother and I will always be grateful for the quality of care Mom received at Barclay Friends.

Moving Mom was a huge change for all of us. She is adjusting slowly and the family is very grateful and pleased with caring concern of all of the staff. We feel tremendous relief that Mom is in a clean, safe, well-maintained community with the best staff around. I am always amazed at how many smiles and kind greetings I receive simply by walking down the hall. We are very grateful for the beautiful landscaping and just all of the staff.. Thank you!
