Weaving News Ideas into Memory Care

Tapestry is a highly personalized memory support program that encourages positive social interactions and a better quality of life.  Residents who enter the program receive services at the Personal Care level, including medication management; assistance with bathing, dressing and personal cleanliness; and individual care plans.  In keeping with our Values and Practices, Tapestry residents are protected by the Wander Guard alert system—programs are not held in locked areas, nor are physical or chemical restraints used—and the focus remains on freedom of movement, independence, autonomy and choice.

The program coordinator has special expertise in dementia care and creates a daily schedule for each resident that incorporates physical fitness, brain fitness, socialization, rest times according to the needs of our residents, and, most important of all, engagement.  Most of these activities take place in the Tapestry Gathering Room, designed to provide residents with an intimate setting to increase their level of comfort.

Resident Assistants help with meals and grooming and are supported by an on-site licensed practical nurse and a registered nurse. Staff Art, Music, and Horticultural Therapists also spend time with residents.  The primary focus is to give residents choices throughout each day, while providing the structure they need to make the most of those days. Our goal is to slow the progression of the cognitive loss by keeping residents engaged in the world around them and invested in the relationships they’ve spent a lifetime building.
