Recently celebrating her third anniversary at Barclay Friends, Judy Rivers brings care, attentiveness, and genuine connection to each day as a dining server. Her role goes far beyond serving meals; it centers on building relationships, creating trust, and understanding what matters most to the people she serves.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Judy’s work is getting to know the residents. “It’s like a family here,” she shared. Taking time to listen, remember preferences, and notice changes allows Judy to support each person with dignity and respect. That connection is what keeps her inspired every day. When asked what she loves most about her work, Judy said that she loves knowing her efforts can positively impact someone’s day.
“She takes the time to truly know the residents and understands how important meals are to comfort, routine, and overall well-being,” said Brianna Morales, Director of Culinary Services at Barclay Friends. “That kind of dedication makes a meaningful difference.”
One memory that stands out for Judy reflects the meaningful relationships she forms with residents. Last year, a resident asked for Judy to stop by her apartment. When Judy arrived, the resident presented her with a homemade Valentine’s Day card. “It meant so much to me,” said Judy.
Outside of work, Judy enjoys spending time with her family and her beagle, Cricket. Trips to Ocean City, New Jersey with family and nieces are a favorite, especially when Cricket comes along.
Judy, who has three adult children of her own, describes working at Barclay Friends as a blessing. “I’ve worked for other senior living communities before, but none are like Barclay Friends,” she said.
