Fall is the time to prep our plants for their long winter rest – perennials are not dead, even if the tops die down and still need care as the days grow shorter. Come to Barclay Friends and learn what you can be doing now to ensure a successful spring and summer garden. Learn which plants can stay, and which need to go. Should I mulch and with what? What shrubs and tree? Do they need a winter bed? What tasks should I put on my list for fall gardening? Don’t hang up your trowel just yet! Enjoy the fall weather and work in your garden with the new knowledge that you are doing just what your precious plants need.
Presented by Barbara Rinehart, Master Gardener with the Penn State Extension service in Chester County. Barbara is an active member of the West Chester Garden Club and for this group designed an 80′ pollinator habitat for East Goshen Park, which just won the “Garden of Distinction: award in the 2016 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gardening and Greening Contest. She also served on the Tyler Arboretum Butterfly Management team for 8 years. Barbara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from James Madison University and a Master’s Degree in Science from Johns Hopkins University.
