Barclay Friends to Host CCAA Plein Air Event

The Chester County Art Association (CCAA) is partnering with Barclay Friends for an intimate plein air artist event right after Labor Day as a complement to our annual Secret Gardens of West Chester tour on September 9th.  Barclay Friends has 6 stunning private gardens for a limited number of artists to render.

Plein Air Event Days are Tuesday, September 5th; Wednesday, September 6th and/or Thursday morning, September 9th (weather dependent).

Come and see the art created in our gardens!  The Chester County Art Association will offer lobby “pop-ups” at its artist reception on September 7th from 5-7 pm, or you can visit Barclay Friends to see selected works September 8th through 22nd.

Number of participating artists is limited to 20 due to the size of the gardens.  Artists will have their paper/canvas stamped on Tuesday morning, September 5th, when they arrive at Barclay Friends.  A CCAA representative will be based in the general entry area for the morning, and maps of the gardens will be provided.  CCAA artist entry fee is $35 Member /$40 Non-Member for one or both days.  Work must be delivered to CCAA by 1 pm on 9/7 for judging and display prior to 5 pm reception.

CCAA is responsible for all sales and will retain a 35% commission on all sales.  Artists will be required to call/email or come in and provide an inventory (including title, medium and price) of items for display and sale.

Note: up to 3 works can be submitted for judging, however only 1 piece is guaranteed to be hung depending on space restrictions plus number and size of works submitted.  Three monetary awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Once registered, artists will choose the garden space on a first come first serve basis the days of the event; each private garden can accommodate 2 to 6 artists at a given time.  Artists are free to move around depending on how quickly they work and on space available from garden to garden.  We encourage participants to communicate with one another for optimal experience.
