Our commitment to diversity flows from Barclay Friends' and Kendal's Quaker roots and Kendal's published Values and Practices. We believe that a spirit of inclusion and a culture of diversity enrich and strengthen our communities, people, and services.

Black History Month
Black History Month was celebrated at Barclay Friends with a number of activities to include a selection of African dishes in the dining rooms and a fashion show featuring garments from Sierra Leone. Items from Africa were also displayed by Barclay Friends staff in the main hallway of Barclay Friends for residents, visitors, and staff to enjoy.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
A group of about 15 volunteers came to Barclay Friends on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to share a program of songs and recitations with the residents. Organized by the United Way of Chester County, The Charles Melton Center, and several churches of the Religious Council of Greater West Chester, this group was one of many who brought programs to organizations throughout West Chester.
Barclay Friends residents, several volunteer youths, and six or seven adult leaders joined in the recitation of the “I Have a Dream” speech given by Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 23rd Psalm. Songs of joy were many and included “Amazing Grace”, “Imagine”, and culminated with “We Shall Overcome.” As the leading group crossed arms and rocked in rhythm, two residents got up and joined the linked strand of people. There were few dry eyes in the house.
